If you’re reading this then there’s a good chance that you’re looking for either information or answers regarding cannabidiol, otherwise known simply as CBD. Not much is usually known by most people regarding cannabidiol, at least when compared to the other primary component of cannabis, tetrahydrocannabinol – or more commonly known to most (and probably you) as good ol’ THC.
So What Exactly is Cannabidiol?
Well, for starters, cannabidiol is a cannabinoid found in marijuana. Cannabinoids, meanwhile, are more or less complex, diverse chemical compounds that are activated within the brain’s cannabinoid receptors. In layman’s terms, THC is a cannabinoid just as CBD is.
Out of the two cannabinoid compounds, THC is most responsible for the actual “high” of marijuana – at least in terms of getting the munchies, getting locked/glued to your couch and giggling at the slightest infraction upon your consciousness. It is also psychoactive, whereas CBD is not. What cannabidiol does contribute to the equation, however, is by giving cannabis its many medical uses and benefits.
A recent study has also concluded that marijuana strains that are higher in CBD content (as opposed to THC) are much less likely to bring about the negative side effect of memory loss and impairment. In addition, CBD strains of marijuana are well-known and highly regarded for helping to treat everything from nausea to anxiety to epilepsy, multiple sclerosis spasms – heck, even schizophrenia!
Although every type of strain is different – especially these days with so many experimenters and artists cross-pollinating and creating new hybrid strains – most of the dominant CBD kinds of cannabis are usually of the primary indica strain. This is most notable as most of the extremely sedating types of marijuana are usually of the indica variety, so they really go hand in hand.
While most of this beneficial information regarding cannabidiol is only just now coming to light and being formally and officially accepted by the masses, there’s certainly, even more, to unlock about the amazing component. And you can rest assured we’ll be keeping this primer to CBD updated whenever and wherever possible.
